Antisemitic Twitter Troll unmasked as Lecturer at Goldsmiths and Royal Holloway

Dr. Ray Campbell is an Associate Lecturer in Performing Arts
Theatre and Performance at Goldsmiths, University of London, and a Teaching Fellow in Humanities and a Trade Union Committee member at the Royal Holloway, University of London. Campbell, apparently, also worked as a stand-up comedian under the name of “Buddy Hell”.

On social media platform Twitter, Dr. Campbell operates two accounts; a “professional” account under his name, and an “anonymous” one under the pseudonym of “Buddy Hell” where he trolls and bullies those he disagrees with.

Nazi Comparisons

A review of Mr. Campbell’s Twitter timeline revealed several tweets that breach the IHRA definition of antisemitism, including Nazi analogies and Holocaust inversion.

Israel has never practiced involuntary sterilization. Drawing comparisons between Israel and the Nazis is always antisemitic especially when it is based on fake news.

Campbell seems to be defending self-professed Holocaust denier Paul Eisen.

Targeting Jewish religious figures with antisemitic abuse

Dr. Ray Campbell spread fake news to attack the former Chief Rabbi of the United Kingdom for something he did not do. As per the IHRA definition, “accusing Jews as a people of being responsible for real or imagined wrongdoing committed by a single Jewish person or group, or even for acts committed by non-Jews,” is antisemitic.

Referring to the Chief Rabbi as racist is abhorrent especially when it is based on lies.

Neither Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks nor Rabbi Sir Ephraim Mirvis participated in the Jerusalem flag march.

Libeling a Jewish colleague

Dr. Campbell has also been harassing David Hirsh, a Senior Lecturer in Sociology at Goldsmiths, University of London, and a campaigner against antisemitism, from his sock account, falsely labeling him a racist.

Antisemitism denial and incitement

On Twitter, Dr. Campbell regularly attacks Jewish organisations and campaigners against antisemitism portraying them as racists and suggesting that Jews want to downplay racism against other minorities, while denying antisemitism and provoking racial hatred.

This is, of course, an outright lie from Dr. Campbell. The Campaign Against Antisemitism (CAA) does not promote the “interests of Israel” and to suggest that they do is antisemitic. The acquisition that Jews of colour do not count is an obvious falsehood. The CAA have consistently called out antisemitism to any Jew regardless of their colour.

Dr. Campbell seems rather obsessed with the CAA from stereotyping them as right wing supporters of Kahane because they expose antisemitism to stating they only call out antisemitism in Labour. One look at their website would prove that to be wrong.

Dr. Campbell also appears to decide who is and who is not a Jew based on his personal preference. Lee Harpin is Jewish. It is funny he should put himself up as an expert on who is Jewish.

Campbell also seems to spend a lot of time aggressively trolling non Jews who speak up against antisemitism, calling them “goys” which is an old fashioned unpleasant word for non Jews. It is rather odd that he does this as he himself is a “goy”.

An independent inquiry into antisemitism is currently taking place at Goldsmiths and we intend to submit this investigation into Dr. Campbell’s conduct online as evidence.
