Craig Mokhiber is a high-ranking Director and the Deputy for the Assistant Secretary-General (ASG) for Human Rights, Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in New York.
Following a review of Mr. Mokhiber’s social media accounts, our research team discovered that many of his tweets on Israel, Palestine, and Gaza are highly biased and violate UN rules regarding impartiality, objectivity, and independence. In this post, you can find links to the International Civil Service’s standards of conduct and UN Staff’s guidelines on social media use.
Mr. Mokhiber was also found to be spreading misinformation, using stronger, more emotive, language when talking about Israel than any other country. He expressed support for Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS), but he doesn’t appear to advocate boycotting any other country, clearly indicating he holds Israel to a higher standard than any other country, a form of antisemitism. Furthermore, we found no commentary or social media posts by him criticizing Palestinian terrorism or Hamas/Islamic Jihad rocket attacks. The lack of impartiality shown here is evident.
In May 2021, in an interview with Tabitha Lipkin of NBC LX News (starting at 04:14 in), Mr. Mokhiber promoted malicious falsehoods about the state of Israel. For instance, he claimed that Palestinian families in “occupied East Jerusalem” have been attacked simply because they are Arabs, and falsely referred to the Palestinians as indigenous people who have been affected by decades of settler colonialism. Further, he mischaracterized the situation in Gaza by referring to it as an open-air prison, a phrase that is completely incorrect.
Pushing the “settler colonialism” “ethnic cleansing” “genocide” and “apartheid” lie about Israel
There is no evidence to support Mr. Mokhiber’s claim of “cold blooded murder”.
ANTISEMITISM
As part of our investigation, we also uncovered a number of antisemitic tweets on Mr. Mokhiber’s Twitter timeline, including tweets advocating a one state solution and the right to return for ALL Palestinian refugees, which in essence means destroying the state of Israel and denying the right to self-determination to the Jewish people.
Advocating for the destruction of a member state is against UN impartiality rules.
We also found a couple of tweets defending UN Special Rapporteur for the occupied Palestinian territory (Francesca Albanese) from accusations of antisemitism. As we have documented in the past, Ms. Albanese is an unrepentant antisemite.
Mokhiber has opposed the working definition of antisemitism by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA), which the Jewish community accepts as the only definition.
Having Mr Monikabir dictate how antisemitism should be defined to Jews, the most persecuted ethnicity in the world, is highly antisemitic. Does he decide how racism is defined for any other ethnicity? The black community? The Asian Community?
Jews are accused by Mr Monkiabir of making false accusations of antisemitism in order to protect Israel or to serve political purposes, which the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) found to be gravely antisemitic. Jews are the only ones who can define “real antisemitism.”
Craig Mokhiber’s tweet labeling Jewish objections to UN Special Rapporteur oPt Francesca Albanese’s antisemitic conspiracy theories a “trick” to hide the “evil of their position”
ANTI-ISRAEL BIAS AND INCITEMENT
The accompanied image is not from Deir Yassin, it was taken in Shatila camp on September 20, 1982. There are opposing accounts as to what happened in Deir Yassin on April 9, 1948, but what is certain is that it wasn’t an organized massacre like the pogroms of Jewish people in Russia or eastern Europe.
Francesca Albanese uses a video from 2017 to stir up hatred against Israeli Jews. What she des not tell is that this off-duty officer was fired, charged, convicted, and received two months community service.
Mr. Mokhiber’s conduct on social media needs to be reported to the Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS) and to UN Ethics.
