United Nations Humanitarian Affairs Officer Nurhaida Rahim dismisses account of October 7 massacre as “drivel”

Nurhaida Rahim is a Humanitarian Affairs Officer in the Fund Management Support Unit, Country Based Pooled Funds (CBPF) Section of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in New York.

Following a review of Ms Nurhaida Rahim’s LinkedIn account, we discovered that her recent posts and comments on Israel, Palestine, and Gaza are highly biased and violate United Nations (UN) rules regarding impartiality, objectivity, and independence. Also included in this post links to the International Civil Service’s standards of conduct and UN Staff’s guidelines on social media use, which, we believe, Ms Rahim has violated.

On 04 November 2023 15:26:48 GMT (UTC), Nurhaida Rahim said to a person who was describing Hamas’s October 7th massacre of Jews “please take your drivel somewhere else. Everything you have regurgitated here have simply make you an extension of the propaganda machine and deplorable racist ideology of an apartheid regime.”

Needless to say, denial of October 7 atrocities is disgusting and highly antisemitic, as is pushing the mendacious “apartheid” slur against Israel.

On 25 October 2023 at 05:57:26 GMT (UTC), Nurhaida Rahim shared a link to a highly biased and contested report by the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem and Israel, which is led by Navi Pillay, and commented “In case you’re still on the fence of where this is heading, I recommend reading the report in full.”

On 23 October 2023 at 06:54:49 GMT (UTC), Nurhaida Rahim uploaded text falsely alleging that Israel is committing genocide in “Palestine,” and urging humanitarian institutions to support Palestine against Israel. She also commented “I am deeply disappointed and utterly ashamed of how humanitarian institutions have lost its moral compass, pandering to the whims of a few powers that be.”

Furthermore, she promotes false information about the explosion in the parking area of the Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza on October 17. Also, it is important to note that Israel does not violate humanitarian law in her war against Hamas in Gaza. In this interview, Natasha Hausdorff, an expert on international law, including the law of armed conflict, succinctly explains that Israel is “NOT breaking international law.”

In our view, Nurhaida Rahim is ineligible for a position at any humanitarian organisation and she needs to be reported to the Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS) and to UN Ethics.
