Unmasking deception: The Hamad family of Beit Hanoun crowdfunding campaign amidst support for terrorism

In the last few months, members of the Hamad family from Beit Hanoun have used social media and online crowdfunding platforms, such as Chuffed.org and GoFundMe, to portray themselves as innocent victims of Israel’s military actions against Hamas in Gaza while soliciting donations. However, our investigation has revealed that some family members are linked to terrorism and were involved in the October 7 terror attacks as part of Hamas leadership. Others have publicly celebrated the large-scale massacre of innocent civilians. Further examination of social media posts by Hamad family members uncovered messages promoting antisemitism.

Mohammed Zaki Hamad (محمد زكي حمد) was the deputy commander of Hamas' Beit Hanoun Battalion, while Ibrahim Musa Hamad (ابراهيم موسى حمد) served as the commander of the artillery unit in Beit Hanoun. Both, according to Israel, participated in the October 7 terror attacks. Muhammad Musa Hamad (محمد موسى حمد) was a colonel in Hamas' civil defense and held the position of deputy director of the Fire and Rescue Department.

During our research, we observed many other fundraising campaigns similar to those of the Hamad family. This raises concerns that Gazans asking for money may not be truthful and could be using these platforms to gather funds for harmful or violent purposes. It serves as a reminder that people should closely examine where their donations are going and whom they may be supporting.

At the time of publishing this post, the Hamad family has raised a total of USD $71,353 and GBP £44,241 from six ongoing fundraising campaigns, as follows:

Let’s meet some of those “innocent” campaigners.

Khaldun Siam Hamad (خلدون صيام حمد)

Khaldun Siam Hamad, who claims to be a professional content creator, has expressed support for the October 7 terror attacks and praised his Hamas-affiliated cousins. He has also posted offensive antisemitic messages.

Ehab Essam Hamad (ايهاب عصام حمد)

Ehab Essam Hamad claims to be a student of laboratory medicine at The Islamic University of Gaza. While our research indicates that he has not yet completed his studies, he is being falsely promoted as a doctor on social media crowdfunding campaigns to solicit donations. Ehab has also celebrated the October 7 massacre and praised Hamas terrorists.

Abed Siam Hamad (عابد صيام حمد)

Abed (Abood) Siam Hamad is allegedly a lawyer and writer. On his social media pages, he has glorified Yahya Sinwar, the militant leader of Hamas, and Baha Abu al-Ata, the leader of the Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine, while also eulogizing his Hamas-affiliated cousins. Furthermore, he has shared posts inciting violence against Israeli Jews.

Omar Hamad (عمر حمد)

Omar Hamad appears to be a versatile individual, claiming to be a writer, pharmacist, and tailor. On the social media platforms X and Instagram, he has endorsed terrorism and celebrated violence against Jews.

We believe that many terror-linked Gazans, such as the Hamad family, exploit crowdfunding services to gather funds for illicit and harmful purposes. The apparent lack of due diligence practices at organizations like Chuffed.org and GoFundMe calls for a thorough investigation into the potential misuse of their services.
