Research Officer at the European Legal Support Center (ELSC)| UK
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
- Amira Abdelhamid is the Director of Monitoring and Research at the European Legal Support Center (ELSC). She joined the ELSC monitoring and research team in January 2025. Prior to this, she worked as a lecturer in international relations at the University of Portsmouth.
- On 26 July 2025, Amira Abdelhamid harassed a family of Hamas victims during a protest in Brighton. A link to our post on X identifying her is provided here.
- In 2023, the University of Portsmouth investigated and suspended her for allegedly justifying the 7 October massacre as a “legitimate struggle”. She posted a series of messages on X that appeared to justify the Hamas-led attacks and express support for terrorism. Abdelhamid was referred to the Prevent programme, and was later arrested and charged with alleged terror offences; however, the Crown Prosecution Service dropped the case in 2024 for undisclosed reasons.
