Mohammed Shah
Full-stack developer | London, England, UK and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia
Background information
Tech for Palestine’s Genocide VC tracks venture capital firms and investors accused by ‘pro-Palestinian’ activists of backing military action, anti-Palestinian sentiment, or surveillance of Palestinians.
We looked at Mohammed Shah’s social media output. Shah, known online as smashah, is a London-based full-stack developer and the creator and maintainer of open-wa. He is a Genocide VC contributor and is reportedly involved in its data collection and organisation. In a surprise to no one, he is a conspiracy theorist and a raging antisemite.
Below are examples of his antisemitism. We urge you to report him for hate speech to the Metropolitan Police.
SPREADING ANTISEMITIC LIES, CONSPIRACIES AND TROPES
This image features Israel Perkal, a journalist, researcher, and reporter on Haredi affairs who currently works for Kan News and in the digital division of the Public Broadcasting Corporation. There is no public record or official indication that he served in the Israel Defence Forces (IDF). The text overlay is a deliberate misquote of part of a verse by Balaam, a non-Israelite prophet hired by King Balak of Moab to curse the Israelites, but who was instead forced by God to bless Israel. This verse is found in Numbers 23:24. In any case, blaming all Jews for the actions of one person is antisemitism 101.
Shah posts deranged conspiracy theories on his page that have no basis in fact, including claims that Israel brought down Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 (MH370) in retaliation for Malaysia’s show of solidarity with Gaza, and claims invoking the old antisemitic trope that Jews or Israel control government figures or the media. Such conspiracy theories have historically been used by the Nazis to fuel antisemitism and justify the Holocaust.
ZOG stands for “Zionist Occupied Government”, a conspiracy theory coined by neo-Nazi activist Eric Thomson in 1976, claiming that Jews secretly control Western governments. It is antisemitic because it recycles the ancient trope of a shadowy Jewish cabal running the world, uses “Zionist” as a fig leaf to disguise ethnic hatred as political criticism, and has inspired real-world violence. There is no factual basis for it whatsoever.
SHARING NAZI-STYLE ANTI-JEWISH PROPAGANDA
Shah repeatedly uses the word “Zionists” as a code for Jews. Let us make it clear that criticising Israeli policy is not antisemitic. However, treating millions of Zionist Jews as morally suspect, politically illegitimate, or less deserving is antisemitism. Pretending that Zionists or Jews use baby blood is medieval Christian antisemitism, which was used to justify centuries of antisemitism and violence against Jews.
Calling the Star of David Nazi is not only antisemitic, it is a lazy comparison designed to attack Jews. Calling Jews “satanic cockroaches” is Nazi-style dehumanisation propaganda. There is no difference between this statement and statements made by the Nazis.
ERASING HAMAS' OCTOBER 7 ATROCIOUS CRIMES
Denying Hamas’ culpability in the October 7 massacre while trying to blame Jews for it is an abhorrent lie. It is another conspiracy theory that attempts to whitewash the culpability of Hamas terrorists in October 7.
PROMOTING THE GENOCIDE LIBEL AND MAKING NAZI ANALOGIES
Using an image of the UK Chief Rabbi and putting the words “rabbi genocide” over his face is abhorrent. It also suggests that he is somehow responsible for the actions of the Israeli government, which are not, in fact, genocide.
There is no Holocaust or genocide in Gaza. The term “Zio” is a white supremacist slur against Jewish people. Using Jewish remembrance of the Holocaust to advance misinformation and gain likes on social media is depraved. There are no words for how disgusting and offensive this is.
Mohammed Shah is a threat to Jews and should be arrested for hate speech. It is not surprising that a Nazi like Shah is using “Palestinian advocacy” as a cover for antisemitism.
