Ahmed Mahmoud Mohammad Al-Qarra (أحمد محمود محمد القرا)
Public relations administrator & academic lecturer at Al-Aqsa University | Khuza’a, Khan Yunis, southern Gaza
Death and Reported Roles
- Death: Ahmed Mahmoud Mohammad Al-Qarra (أحمد محمود محمد القرا) was killed on November 10, 2023, reportedly in a targeted airstrike at the entrance of Khuza’a town, east of Khan Yunis, in the southern Gaza Strip.
- Journalistic Association: The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) and the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) identified Ahmed Al-Qarra as a photojournalist who worked for Al-Aqsa University—a classification echoed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). UNESCO published a letter from Mounir Anastas, the Ambassador and Permanent Delegate of the State of Palestine to UNESCO, listing Ahmed Al-Qarra as a photojournalist casualty and accusing the “Israeli occupying army” of “deliberately targeting journalists with no constraints or consequences.” In reality, Al-Qarra was the public relations administrator at the university, and he also taught social media and digital photography courses there.
- Militant Affiliation: After his death, Ahmed Al-Qarra has been recognized in tributes as a ‘leader‘ and ‘fighter‘ of the Khan Yunis Qassam Brigades’ Eastern Battalion, which is responsible for the Khuza’a and Abasan areas. Additionally, a death notice published by a Hamas-affiliated Telegram channel, Qassam Martyrs, presented him as an al-Qassam martyr.
Note 1: The IFJ included Ahmed Al-Qarra in its 2023 “killed list” report.
Note 2: Ahmed Al-Qarra’s brother, Abdullah Al-Qarra (عبدالله القرا), was a militant operative of the al-Qassam Brigades. He was eliminated in April 2011.
