Ha'il Deeb Shaaban Al-Najjar (هايل ديب شعبان النجار)
Co-founder of Al-Aqsa Media Network | Editing Technician at Al-Aqsa Satellite Channel | Jabalia, Gaza
Death and Reported Roles
- Death: Ha’il Deeb Shaaban Al-Najjar (هايل ديب شعبان النجار) was killed on May 15, 2024, reportedly in a targeted Israeli airstrike on his family home on Old Gaza Street (Al-Gaza al-Qadima) in Jabalia, in the northern Gaza Strip.
- Journalistic Association: The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) recognised Ha’il Deeb Al-Najjar as a media worker casualty who worked for Al Aqsa Media Network, which is entirely financed, operated, and controlled by Hamas and is officially designated as a terrorist organisation by several governments (specifically Al-Aqsa TV). His profile is also listed by journalism watchdogs and so-called “genocide trackers,” including the Institute for Palestine Studies’ Shireen Abu Akleh platform, which identified him as a journalist and a founder of the network, though others claimed he was an editing technician for the Al-Aqsa Satellite Channel. This claim was repeated by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), which published a letter from Mounir Anastas, the Ambassador and Permanent Delegate of the State of Palestine to UNESCO, listing Ha’il Al-Najjar as a journalist casualty and accusing the “Israeli occupying army” of “deliberately targeting journalists with no constraints or consequences.”
- Militant Affiliation: The Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades’ Military Media Department listed Ha’il Deeb Al-Najjar on its “martyrs” page. A Telegram channel, Aqmar Tofan (أقمار الطوفان), which commemorates Al-Qassam militants killed during “Al-Aqsa Flood” (Tufan al-Aqsa), identified him as a field commander in the Martyr Abdul Raouf Nabhan Battalion, Northern Brigade.
Note 1: The IFJ also listed Ha’il Deeb Al-Najjar in its 2024 “killed list” report.
