QPR FC owner accused of support of terrorism and antisemitism

Prominent Malaysian businessman Datuk Ruben Emir Gnanalingam Bin Abdullah, widely known as Ruben Emir Gnanalingam, is the owner of Queens Park Rangers Football Club (QPR FC). Recent research indicates that he has shared posts expressing sympathies for banned terrorist organisations, such as Hamas and Hezbollah, on his LinkedIn profile, which has nearly 12,000 followers.

Gnanalingam serves as the executive chairman and group managing director of Westports Holdings, one of Malaysia’s leading port operators. In addition to his role at Westports, he is the Board vice-chairman of QPR FC, where he holds a majority stake. He also is the chairman and trustee of QPR in the Community Trust, the club’s charitable arm, and is a member of the Advisory Board for The Inclusion Initiative at the London School of Economics and Political Science.

In addition to his various roles, Gnanalingam is a part-owner and director of the Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC), serves as the current president of The Kuala Lumpur Business Club, and is a member of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Business Advisory Council.

A review of Gnanalingam recent activity on LinkedIn shockingly revealed a consistent stream of extremely biased and inflammatory anti-Israel messages. Additionally, many of the posts he shares contain antisemitic narratives and promote terrorist propaganda. This includes disturbing content that makes Nazi comparisons and inverts the Holocaust, and features messages urging Muslim armies to “free Palestine.”

#ArmiesToAqsa

The hashtag #ArmiesToAqsa, started by the media office of the now-outlawed Hizb ut-Tahrir in the UK, calls for the mobilisation of Muslim armed forces to eliminate the “Zionist occupation in Palestine” and to re-establish a Caliphate. Gnanalingam appears to consistently advocate for the dismantling of Israel and the eradication of Zionism and his timeline includes posts encouraging Muslim armies to attack Israel to “liberate Al Aqsa and free Palestine.”

ERASING HAMAS' OCTOBER 7 ATROCIOUS CRIMES

During our investigation into Ruben Emir Gnanalingam’s LinkedIn activity, we came across several posts that demonised Israel while erasing Palestinian terrorism.

Note: This edited version of a video interview with Israeli Commander Colonel Golan Vach misrepresents his statements, making it appear as though he “admitted” that an Israeli tank killed Israeli hostages. In reality, he attributes these actions to Hamas.

Promoting Antisemitism

The review of Ruben Emir Gnanalingam’s activity on linkedIn also uncovered posts which promote false antisemitic content that is profoundly offensive to Jews, including

  • Nazi comparisons and Holocaust inversion
  • Antisemitic conspiracies and fake news that seek to delegitimize Israel
  • Modern version of the age-old antisemitic blood libel which accuses Israel of intentionally killing Palestinian children

Comparisons between Israel’s actions in Gaza and the Holocaust is antisemitic based on the IHRA definition of antisemitism.

Ruben Emir Gnanalingam’s apparent support for terrorist organisations and his active advocacy for the eradication of Israel raise significant concerns and contribute to pro-terrorist sentiments. Such online behavior is clearly at odds with UK anti-terror laws. We urge UK authorities to investigate this matter.

Update 11/02/2025

Ruben Emir Gnanalingam apologised for his social media reposts and has made his LinkedIn page inactive.

Major League Soccer (MLS) and Los Angeles Football Club released a joint statement strongly condemning the offensive social media posts by Ruben Emir Gnanalingam, with MLS adding that it was investigating the situation.

This exposé was covered by major media outlets, including AP and USA Today.
