Background information
James Melville, founder of East Points West and the ‘No Farmers, No Food’ campaign, and a regular pundit on GB News and Talk TV, uses his large X account to push conspiratorial and misleading claims about Israel and to try to justify the Hamas massacre of civilians on 7 October. He frames this as “free speech,” but his content leans heavily on antisemitic tropes about secret Israeli control of other governments. He claims that antisemitism is invented to shut down criticism; the latter was determined to be antisemitic by the Equality and Human Rights Commission.
He boosts extreme figures like Gareth Icke, son of conspiracy theorist David Icke, and promotes material from the same ecosystem that has long trafficked in antisemitic conspiracy theories. He also shares Norman Finkelstein, who is a hardline anti‑Israel activist who has defended and rationalised Hamas and Hezbollah and even compared the 7 October attacks to a slave rebellion, arguing they should not be condemned.
Melville has also platformed and retweeted doctor Rahmeh Aladwan, who has repeatedly praised Hamas and suicide bombers. She has been arrested multiple times and suspended from practice over posts talking about “Jewish supremacy”, praising Hamas’s 7 October massacres, and expressing support for a proscribed terrorist organisation.
On top of this, Melville pushes outright falsehoods. He accepted a family’s claim that Israel’s use of white phosphorus caused a Gazan child’s congenital limb deformities, even though the medical condition is present from birth and the allegation is unsupported.
He has promoted the film “Palestine 36”, described as an insult to history, to allege deliberate Israeli atrocities against children. He also repeats a debunked claim that Israel started the war to seize “500 billion dollars” of Gaza gas, instead of the actual estimate of around 4 billion dollars, which Israel has not claimed and in 2023 agreed could be developed by the Palestinian Authority and Egypt.
Taken together, this is not “robust criticism of Israel.” It is a pattern of amplifying conspiracy theorists, supporting or excusing open Hamas sympathisers, repeating false claims about Jewish “supremacy” and secret control, and trying to rationalise the 7 October massacre. GB News, Talk TV and others that promote him are legitimising those that support terrorism and antisemitism.
