Elected Women’s Officer at University of Sussex students’ union Hanin Barghouti glorifies terrorist attacks on Israel (update)

Hanin Barghouti is a supporter of terrorism. Hanin is also the elected Women’s Students officer at the University of Sussex Students’ Union.

Hanin addressed a crowd at a pro-Palestine rally organised by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign in Brighton on Sunday, October 08, 2023, calling Hamas terror attacks against Israel “inspiring” and “beautiful.” We exposed Hanin in this X (formerly Twitter) thread.

Here she is celebrating the murder, rape and and kidnapping of Jewish children and women.

Hanin Barghouti is a danger to the British public. We urged our followers to report her to Sussex Police and to Prevent Coordinator at the Counter Terrorism Policing for supporting a proscribed terror organisation Hamas.

Brighton and Hove News reported that the Police is to investigate the speech made by her at the rally.

Update (October 13, 2023): Hanin Barghouti arrested under Section 12 of the Terrorism Act 2000

Brighton’s local newspaper The Argus reported that Hanin Barghouti was arrested by Counter Terrorism Policing South East “on suspicion of supporting a proscribed organisation, namely Harakat al-Muqawamah al-Islamiyyah (Hamas), under section 12 of the Terrorism Act 2000.”

The Argus reported that Hanin Barghouti 22, of Eaton Grove, Hove, was charged yesterday, 13 November 2023, with one count of supporting a proscribed organisation – Hamas.

Update (March 13, 2026): Hanin Barghouti trial concluded with a hung jury

Brighton and Hove News reported that the jury in the Hanin Barghouti case failed to reach a verdict on whether she expressed support for Hamas.

Update (March 20, 2026): Hanin Barghouti will face a retrial

The Argus reported that prosecutor Michael Bisgrove confirmed the CPS will pursue a second trial for Hanin Barghouti, scheduled to begin on 22 February 2027.
