Death and Reported Roles

  • Death: Mohammed Nabil Ibrahim Al-Zaq (محمد نبيل ابراهيم الزق) was killed on November 22, 2023, allegedly as a result of an Israeli bombardment in the Shuja’iyya neighborhood in Gaza City.
  • Journalistic Association: The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) and the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) identified Mohamed Nabil Al-Zaq as a journalist who also worked for Al-Quds Today TV (alqudstoday.tv), a satellite television channel affiliated with the Palestinian Islamic Jihad militant group. This claim was echoed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), which published a letter from Mounir Anastas, the Ambassador and Permanent Delegate of the State of Palestine to UNESCO, listing Mohamed Nabil Al-Zaq as a photographer casualty and accusing the ‘Israeli occupying army’ of ‘deliberately targeting journalists with no constraints or consequences.’
  • Militant Affiliation: Mohammed Nabil Ibrahim Al-Zaq was a combatant member of the Al-Quds Brigades Missile Force.

Note 1: The IFJ also listed Mohammed Nabil Al-Zaq in its 2023 “killed list” report.

Note 2: Mohammed Al-Zaq was the founder of Quwat al-Baha (“Power Glory”), a Telegram channel associated with Saraya al-Quds (Al-Quds Brigades), which is the military wing of Palestinian Islamic Jihad.

Update: 19 March 2026. The Al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of the Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine, released an obituary for a group of military commanders who were killed during the Battle of Al-Aqsa Flood, which began on 7 October 2023. Among those named is Mohammed Nabil Ibrahim Al-Zaq, head of the Central Office – Northern Region.
