Muhammad Manhal Abu Armana (محمد منهل أبو عرمانة)
Journalist and photographer for Palestine Now | Gaza City
Death and Reported Roles
- Death: Muhammad Manhal Abu Armana (محمد منهل أبو عرمانة) was killed on July 13, 2024, in an Israeli drone strike in the al-Mawasi area west of Khan Yunis. This same attack reportedly eliminated senior commanders of the Al-Qassam Brigades, Mohamed Deif and Rafa Salama.
- Journalistic Association: The Committee to Protect Journalists identified Muhammad Abu Armana as a journalist and photographer for the Gaza-based news agency Palestine Now (فلسطين الآن), which is closely aligned with and supportive of Hamas. This classification was uncritically echoed by BBC News Arabic, and Audrey Azoulay, the Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), openly and unashamedly condemned his killing.
- Militant Affiliation: Muhammad Abu Armana has been recognized in online obituaries and tributes as a “Martyr Mujahid” and as “one of the Knights” of the Rafah Brigade’s Military Media Unit.
Note: Muhammad Abu Armana’s younger brother, Yahya Manhal Ahmed Abu Armana (يحيى منهل أحمد ابو عرمانه), was a militant operative of the al-Qassam Brigades. He reportedly participated in the attacks on October 7, 2023, and was killed in the fighting that day.
