Zakaria Fathi Musleh Abu Ghali (زكريا فتحي مصلح ابو غالي)
Screenwriter for Al-Quds Today TV | Deir al Balah, Gaza
Death and Reported Roles
- Death: Zakaria Fathi Musleh Abu Ghali (زكريا فتحي مصلح ابو غالي) was killed on February 6, 2024, reportedly in a targeted Israeli airstrike on a house belonging to the Abu Akar family in the Tel Al-Sultan neighborhood in the Rafah Governorate in southern Gaza, northwest of Rafah’s city center.
- Journalistic Association: The Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA) and the Institute for Palestine Studies inaccurately identified Zakaria Abu Ghali as a journalist for Al-Quds al-Youm satellite television channel (Al-Quds Today TV), which is affiliated with the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) in Gaza. Several Arab media outlets, including the daily newspaper Arab News, repeated this claim; however, the channel described him as a screenwriter and a member of its staff. His biography on social media also lists the Ministry of Education and the Directorate of Education in Rafah as his employer.
- Militant Affiliation: In a tribute to the leaders and commanders of Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) who were killed in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas-led Palestinian militant groups, Saraya al-Quds (“Jerusalem Brigades”)—the armed wing of PIJ—recognized Zakaria Abu Ghali as a commander in its Central Military Media Unit.
Note: Zakaria’s brother, Ahmad Fathi Musleh Abu Ghali (أحمد فتحي مصلح أبو غالي), served as a field commander in Al-Qassam’s Mohammed Abu Harb battalion (also referred to as the Shaboura battalion) within the Rafah Brigade, and was killed on April 3, 2025.
