Muhammad Al-Sayyed Ismail Abu Skheil (محمد السيد إسماعيل أبو سخيل)
Editor and broadcaster in the news and broadcasting department of Sawt Al Quds (Voice of Jerusalem) Radio | Deir al Balah, Gaza
Death and Reported Roles
- Death: Muhammad Al-Sayyed Ismail Abu Skheil (محمد السيد إسماعيل أبو سخيل) was killed on March 18, 2024 (some sources report March 28, 2024), reportedly by Israeli Defense Forces fire during a raid at the Al-Shifa Medical Complex in Gaza.
- Journalistic Association: The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) and the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) identified Muhammad Abu Skheil as a broadcaster and editor for Sawt Al Quds Radio (إذاعة صوت القدس), which is widely recognized as the official radio outlet of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) in Gaza. The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) uncritically repeated the claim. UNESCO published a letter from Mounir Anastas, the Ambassador and Permanent Delegate of the State of Palestine to UNESCO, in which it listed Muhammad Abu Skheil as a journalist casualty and accused the ‘Israeli occupying army’ of ‘deliberately targeting journalists with no constraints or consequences.’
- Militant Affiliation: Tributes and eulogies by social media platform Wayastabshirun (وَيَسْتَبْشِرُونَ)—a word that appears most prominently in Surah Al Imran (3:170), where it describes the state of martyrs in the afterlife—along with his family members, described Muhammad Abu Skheil as a hero fighter and portrayed him in military fatigues associated with the Al-Quds Brigades (the armed wing of PIJ).
Update (May 6, 2026): PIJ’s Saraya Al-Quds Brigades Military Media confirmed that Muhammad Abu Skheil served as a Platoon Commander in the group’s Financial Administration Unit within the Gaza Brigade.
Note: Muhammad was killed alongside his brother, Tariq Al-Sayyed Ismail Abu Skheil “Abu Jaafar” (“طارق السيد اسماعيل ابو سخيل “ابو جعفر), who worked as the head of electronic media for the same Voice of Al-Quds Radio station.
