There has been a lot of justified outrage about this tweet from Khawaja Muhammad Asif, the Pakistani Minister of Defence, from a nuclear-armed state. It is revolting and reflects views that are sadly common in Pakistan, including its history of persecution of Christians.
We looked through more of his social media activity. He is clearly antisemitic.
In this screenshot, he justifies the October 7 massacre. This is an astonishing thing for a government minister to say, especially while Pakistan is trying to present itself as a broker for a ceasefire in the Middle East.
In another post, he drags the Holocaust into it to attack Israel and ends up blaming Jews everywhere for the actions of the Israeli government. That is straightforward antisemitism.
In another, he compares Israel to Nazi concentration camps and even claims Palestinians were living in worse conditions. This is simply false: just Google “Gaza before the war” and you can see it was more developed and prosperous than many North African countries.
He also calls Israel “Judeo-Nazis”, which is a disgusting and hateful phrase for any public official to use.
A government that keeps a minister like this in such a senior position should not be taken seriously as a partner in any peace talks.
The defense minister of Pakistan, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, is an antisemitic internet troll who promotes antisemitic conspiracy theories. His social media pages are filled with anti-Jewish messages that violate the IHRA definition of antisemitism. Examples include:
1. Making mendacious, dehumanizing, demonizing, or stereotypical allegations about Jews as such or the power of Jews as collective — such as, especially but not exclusively, the myth about a world Jewish conspiracy or of Jews controlling the media, economy, government or other societal institutions.
2. Accusing Jews as a people of being responsible for real or imagined wrongdoing committed by a single Jewish person or group, or even for acts committed by non-Jews.
3. Drawing comparisons of contemporary Israeli policy to that of the Nazis.
4. Denying the Jewish people their right to self-determination, e.g., by claiming that the existence of a State of Israel is a racist endeavor.
5. Calling for, aiding, or justifying the killing or harming of Jews in the name of a radical ideology or an extremist view of religion.
