Death and Reported Roles

  • Death: Faisal Abdullah Muhammad Abu Al-Qumsan (فيصل عبدالله محمد ابو القمصان) was killed on December 26, 2024, in a targeted missile strike that hit the vehicle he was traveling in, near Al-Awda Hospital in the Nuseirat Refugee Camp in central Gaza.
  • Journalistic Association: The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) identified Faisal Abu Al-Qumsan as a journalist and correspondent for Al-Quds Today TV (القدس اليوم), a satellite television channel affiliated with the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terrorist group. The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) also listed Faisal Abu Al-Qumsan in its “journalists and media staff killed in 2024” report.
  • Militant Affiliation: The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that Faisal Abu Al-Qumsan, responsible for security operations for the PIJ in Nuseirat, and four of his colleagues, who were also killed in the same strike, were confirmed to be Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) operatives based on intelligence from multiple sources. Additionally, we uncovered a short video clip of him on stage at what appears to be an Al-Quds Brigades (the PIJ’s armed wing) event.

Note 1: According to the  IDF, this strike resulted in the deaths of four other individuals identified as PIJ operatives:

Three of them were confirmed using a list of PIJ operatives found by the IDF in Gaza.

Note 2: Shortly after the incident, the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate (PJS) and the National Union of Journalists (NUJ) condemned the killing of these five so-called “journalists,” repeating unsubstantiated claims and anti-Israel propaganda. Separately, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) falsely accused Israel of deliberately targeting journalists.
