Death and Reported Roles

  • Death: Fouad Ahmed Mohsen Abu Khammash (فؤاد أحمد محسن أبو خماش) was killed on January 10, 2024, allegedly as a result of an Israeli bombing on Salah al-Din Road in central Gaza, which also led to the deaths of three of his colleagues from the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS).
  • Journalistic Association: The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate (PJS) identified Fouad Abu Khammash as a freelance photojournalist. This claim was subsequently repeated by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), which published a letter from Mounir Anastas, the Ambassador and Permanent Delegate of the State of Palestine to UNESCO. In the letter, he listed Abu Khammash as a photojournalist casualty and accused the ‘Israeli occupying army’ of ‘deliberately targeting journalists with no constraints or consequences.’
  • Militant Affiliation: The Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades, formerly the official armed wing of Fatah and now a decentralized coalition of Palestinian armed groups, issued a death notice praising Fouad Ahmed Abu Khammash as their martyred field commander and a leader in the brigade’s military media. They noted that he was killed while fulfilling his duty during the #AlAqsaFlood battle.
