Head of Nottingham chambers identified behind antisemitic posts about Jews

Usha Rani Sood

Practicing barrister and head of chambers at Trent Chambers | Nottingham, England, UK

Background information

An investigation by GnasherJew has identified Usha Rani Sood, a barrister of over 50 years’ standing and Head of Trent Chambers in Nottingham, as the operator of social media accounts publishing antisemitic material about Jews as a people, including posts about Holocaust refugees.

Sood was called to the Bar in 1974 and heads a human rights, family and immigration chambers. Her chambers’ website presents her career as one of fighting racial injustice, and she has spoken publicly on human rights. Her own chambers’ complaints policy names her as the person nominated to handle complaints (Trent Chambers). Barristers in chambers are regulated by the Bar Standards Board.

Our Investigation

Our investigation linked Sood to an X account and to a LinkedIn profile carrying her full professional identity, “Barrister and Head, Trent Chambers.” The material below was posted or publicly amplified from those accounts between July and October 2026

The posts

We reviewed nine posts and reposts. Five categories of antisemitism are present: holding Jews collectively responsible for Israel’s actions, classic antisemitic stereotypes about Jews as a people, Holocaust inversion, October 7 false-flag conspiracies, and denial of Jewish peoplehood.

1. Holding Jews collectively responsible for Israel’s actions (X post, 11 October 2026)

The phrase “all Jewish people” is the key. The post assigns responsibility for the actions of the Israeli state to Jews as a people. The IHRA working definition of antisemitism, adopted by the UK government, explicitly lists “holding Jews collectively responsible for actions of the State of Israel” as an example of antisemitism.
2. Classic antisemitic stereotypes about Jews as a people (X post, 7 September 2026)
This post has nothing to do with Israel. It describes Jews fleeing the Nazis, a decade before Israel existed, as “inhuman, grasping and genocidal.” That is the oldest antisemitic material there is: the stereotype of the greedy, grasping Jew, the dehumanisation of Jews as “inhuman,” and the projection of genocide onto Jews as an innate trait. The post goes further and suggests the Western democracies were wise to turn away Holocaust refugees. It is straightforward, unambiguous antisemitism about Jews as a people.
3. Holocaust inversion (LinkedIn post, 8 October 2026)
The post equates Israel’s actions with the Holocaust, the core mechanism of Holocaust inversion. The IHRA definition lists “drawing comparisons of contemporary Israeli policy to that of the Nazis” as antisemitism.
4. October 7 false-flag conspiracies (LinkedIn reposts)
Sood amplified a post claiming a Knesset member “basically confessed” the 7 October massacre was “a false flag,” asserting a “stand down order” on the day. The post recycles the conspiracy theory that the atrocities of 7 October 2023, documented extensively by Israeli and international investigators, were staged or self-inflicted.

She also reshared a post stating “So Israelis staged an Airplane Hijacking 6 days before October 7th, So it can seem like they’re still the victims,” describing Israel as “an evil Western colonial-settler project.
5. Denial of Jewish peoplehood (LinkedIn repost)
A post addressed “you, a Polish settler,” speaking of “the True Semites, the Palestinians.” This repeats the “Khazar” style argument that Jews, and specifically Jewish refugees and their descendants, are foreign settlers with no connection to the land, while casting Palestinians as the only “true” Semites. The “Polish settler” framing erases the Middle Eastern and North African majority of Israel’s Jewish population.

Context

Two further reposts in our sample, a quote from a UN human rights investigator about Israeli soldiers and a banner from an anti-Zionist Jewish network, are political speech about Israel and Zionism. We do not allege that those two items are antisemitic. They are noted here for completeness, because they show the range of material Sood chose to amplify from the same accounts.

Why this matters

Sood is not a private citizen. She is a barrister, an officer of the court, and the Head of Chambers responsible for the conduct and reputation of a legal practice. The Bar Standards Board’s Core Duty 5 requires barristers not to “behave in a way which is likely to diminish the trust and confidence which the public places in you or in the profession,” and Core Duty 8 prohibits unlawful discrimination. The BSB Handbook also makes clear that these duties apply to conduct outside a barrister’s professional life (BSB Core Duties, Counsel Magazine). A barrister who publicly describes Holocaust refugees as “inhuman, grasping and genocidal” and calls for “all Jewish people” to face accountability for Israel’s actions sits in direct conflict with those duties.

The irony is hard to miss. Sood built a public profile on human rights work, including work on honour crimes and trafficking, and her chambers markets itself on “integrity” and racial justice. She is also the person her own chambers nominates to handle complaints. A lawyer who holds Jews collectively responsible for a state’s actions, and who recycles false-flag conspiracies about a terrorist massacre, cannot credibly discharge either role.

What we are doing

We have archived all of the posts referenced above. Our findings will be submitted to the Bar Standards Board as a formal complaint regarding Sood’s fitness to practise, and we have written to Trent Chambers to ask what steps the chambers intends to take.

Note

The posts referenced in this report were publicly visible on X and LinkedIn at the time of writing and have been archived. Quotations are reproduced verbatim from those posts. We make no allegation against any other member, employee or pupil of Trent Chambers, whose legal work we do not dispute.
