Death and Reported Roles

Death: Muhammad Youssef Al-Sakani (محمد يوسف السكني) was killed on July 4, 2024, reportedly in an Israeli drone strike targeting him near his home in the Al-Tuffah neighborhood, east of Gaza City in the northern Gaza Strip.
Journalistic Association: Several press freedom organisations, including the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), and the Institute for Palestine Studies’ Shireen Abu Akleh platform, identified Muhammad Al-Sakani as a media director and journalist for Al-Quds Today TV (القدس اليوم), a satellite television channel affiliated with the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terrorist group. However, CPJ also stated that he actually worked as a driver and in the logistics and studio installation department at the channel.
Militant Affiliation: On June 6, 2026, the Al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of the Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine, released an obituary for several military commanders killed during the “Battle of Al-Aqsa Flood,” which began on October 7, 2023. Among those named was Muhammad Al-Sakani, who served as a deputy platoon commander in PIJ’s central military media unit within the Gaza Brigade.

Note 1: The IFJ also listed Muhammad Al-Sakani in its 2024 “killed list” report.

Note 2: Also killed in the same strike on 4 July 2024 was Al-Sakani’s cousin, Raafat Talal Khaled Al-Bahtini (رأفت طلال خالد البهتيني). Raafat was a relative from the same clan as Khalil Al-Bahtini (خليل البهتيني), a senior member of the military council of PIJ’s Al-Quds Brigades and its military leader for northern Gaza, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike on 9 May 2023.

Raafat and his brother, Abdul Aziz Talal Khaled Al-Bahtini (عبد العزيز طلال خالد البهتيني), were also reportedly active within Palestinian militant factions. Abdul Aziz was killed in Gaza on 23 October 2024.

Update (July 7, 2026): It has been confirmed that Raafat Talal Al-Bahtini was a member of the Al-Quds Brigade’s missile unit and was involved in terrorist activity.
