Former photojournalist with Al-Kitab Channel | Al-Zawayda, Deir al-Balah Governorate, Gaza

Death and Reported Roles

  • Death: Amin Fathi Hamdan (أمين فتحي حمدان) was killed on June 22, 2025, reportedly in an Israeli airstrike targeting his home in the town of Al-Zawayda (الزوايدة), northeast of Deir al-Balah and just west of the Maghazi refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip.
  • Journalistic Association: The Institute for Palestine Studies’ Shireen Abu Akleh platform, which documents attacks on media and journalists, along with other so-called “genocide trackers,” inaccurately described Amin Hamdan as a freelance photographer. The Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA) stated that he was a former photojournalist with Al-Kitab Channel (فضائية الكتاب), an educational and cultural satellite television station operated by the Islamic University of Gaza (IUG).
  • Militant Affiliation: Amjad al-Shuhada (“Glories of the Martyrs,” أمجاد الشهداء) and Hakayat al-Radwan (حكايا الرضوان), pro-Hamas, resistance-affiliated Telegram media channels, confirmed that Amin Hamdan served as a field commander and a leader in the military media division of the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas.

Note 1: Expressions of support and condolences following the death of Amin Fathi Hamdan indicate that he was the brother of Al Jazeera news anchor Mohammad Fathi Hamdan and Hamas representative in Algeria, Youssef Hamdan.
