Mustafa Kamal Abdel Qader Bakir (مصطفى كمال عبد القادر بكير)
Camera operator for Al-Aqsa TV | Rafah, Gaza
Death and Reported Roles
- Death: Mustafa Kamal Abdel Qader Bakir (مصطفى كمال عبد القادر بكير) died on November 23, 2023 (though some sources report November 24, 2024). He reportedly died from injuries sustained in an Israeli airstrike that targeted the Bakir family home in Rafah, southern Gaza Strip, two days earlier.
- Journalistic Association: The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) and the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) described Mustafa Bakir as a journalist and a camera operator who worked for Hamas-affiliated designated terrorist organisation Al Aqsa TV, while the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) uncritically repeated the claim. UNESCO published a letter from Mounir Anastas, the Ambassador and Permanent Delegate of the State of Palestine to UNESCO, in which he referred to Mustafa Bakir as a photographer casualty and accused the “Israeli occupying army” of “deliberately targeting journalists with no constraints or consequences.”
- Militant Affiliation: Aqmar Tofan (أقمار الطوفان), a Telegram channel that commemorates Al-Qassam militants killed during the ‘Al-Aqsa Flood’ (Tufan al-Aqsa), published an obituary identifying Mustafa Bakir as a field commander in the Artillery Battalion (Rafah Brigade) and a member of its Military Media unit.
Update (June 23, 2026): The Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades’ Military Media Department now lists Mustafa Kamal Abdel Qader Bakir on its “martyrs” page.
Note 1: The IFJ also listed Mustafa Bakir in its 2023 “killed list” report.
