Naji Haraj

Naji Haraj ناجي حرج

Executive Director of Geneva International Centre for Justice | Geneva, Switzerland

Background information

Geneva-based Naji Haraj is a former Iraqi diplomat and the current executive director of non-governmental organisation Geneva International Centre for Justice (GICJ). Haraj is considered an expert in the field of international law and human rights, and he practices regularly in United Nations Human Rights Council sessions. Furthermore, Haraj is the main representative of International-Lawyers.org (INTLawyers) in Geneva.

JUSTIFYING TERRORISM

On October 8, 2023, Haraj posted a message to X (formerly Twitter) justifying the Hamas-led genocidal attack on October 7. There is abundant evidence showing that members of Hamas and other armed Palestinian terrorist groups committed horrible crimes on that day, including killing, raping, torture, and hostage-taking of civilians, and yet Naji Haraj went on social media to justify these mass atrocity crimes.

We have also discovered extreme anti-Israel messages, and a post inverting the Holocaust on his timeline. Haraj refers to the Jewish state as “usurping entity” and objects to normalisation and peace building processes between Arab countries and Israel.

Naji Haraj should not be allowed to participate in UN Human Rights Council meetings and his apparent support for terrorism against Israelis needs to be looked into by Swiss authorities.
