- Journalistic Association: The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate (نقابة الصحفيين الفلسطينيين) and several media outlets, including Al Jazeera, have identified Wael Abu Fanouna as a journalist and the news director of Al-Quds Today TV (alqudstoday.tv), a satellite television channel affiliated with the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) militant group.
- Militant Affiliation: Avichay Adraee, a Colonel in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and head of the Arab media division of the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit, stated that Wael Abu Fanouna was the deputy head of the media system affiliated with the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ). In October 2025, the PIJ’s armed wing, the Al-Quds Brigades, issued a death notice for several leaders and fighters killed during the ‘Al-Aqsa Flood’ battle, including Wael Abu Fanouna, who was recognized as a Martyr Commander and a member of the Al-Quds Brigades’ general council.
