Death and Reported Roles
- Death: Yasser Sobhi Hassan Abu Namous (ياسر صبحي حسن ابو ناموس) was killed on October 27, 2023, allegedly as a result of a targeted airstrike on his home in Khan Yunis, located in southern Gaza.
- Journalistic Association: The Committee to Protect Journalists has identified Yasser Abu Namous as a journalist with the Hamas-affiliated Al-Sahel Media Foundation (مؤسسة الساحل للإعلام). The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) uncritically echoed this claim.
- Militant Affiliation: Yasser Abu Namous is classified as a militant operative of the Al Qassam Brigades. His wife, Wafaa Salama, shared a picture of him in military fatigues, while his sister, Yaman, described him as a heroic Qassam martyr. Another sister, Amal, praised him, referring to him as a “lion who left our home to join the Qassam Brigades, pledging allegiance.”
Note: Yasser’s father, Subhi Hassan Atteya Abu Namous (Abu Yasser), appears to have been a commander in Hamas’ military wing, who was killed in March 2002.
