Death and Reported Roles
- Death: Tariq Al-Sayyed Ismail Abu Skheil, known as “Abu Jaafar” (“طارق السيد اسماعيل ابو سخيل “ابو جعفر), was killed on March 18, 2024 (some sources report March 28, 2024), reportedly by Israeli Defense Forces fire during a raid at the Al-Shifa Medical Complex in Gaza.
- Journalistic Association: The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) described Tariq Abu Skheil as a digital media editor for Voice of Al-Quds Radio, a PIJ radio station, while the Committee to Protect Journalists and several other media outlets, including Turkey’s official state-run news agency, Anadolu Agency (AA), identified him as the head of electronic media.
- Militant Affiliation: According to eulogies by his family members, Tariq Abu Skheil (طارق أبو سخيل) was a fighter in the Al-Quds Brigades (the armed wing of PIJ).
Note: Tariq was killed alongside his brother, Mohamed El Sayed Abu Skheil (محمد السيد اسماعيل ابو سخيل), who worked as a broadcaster and editor for the same Voice of Al-Quds Radio station.
