Death and Reported Roles
- Death: Mohammed Fayez Al-Hassani (محمد فايز الحسني) was killed on October 24, 2023, as a result of a targeted airstrike on his home in Gaza City, located in the north-central part of the Gaza Strip.
- Journalistic Association: The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate (PJS) identified Mohammed Fayez Al-Hassani as the General Director and Editor-in-Chief of the Rawasi Palestine Foundation for Culture, Media, and Arts (مؤسسة رواسي فلسطين ثقافة – إعلام فنون), classifying him as a media worker. Both the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) reported this claim without critical examination. UNESCO listed him as a journalist casualty in a letter by then–UNESCO Director-General Audray Azoulay, accusing the “Israeli occupying army” of “deliberately targeting journalists with no constraints or consequences.”
- Militant Affiliation: After his death, Mohammed Fayez Al-Hassani was identified in tributes as a commander in the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) military wing and referred to as the “son of Saraya,” a term associated with Saraya Al-Quds, also known as the Al-Quds Brigades.
Update (February 26, 2026): PIJ acknowledged his role as a commander in the Central Operations Unit in a tribute to its “martyred” commanders.

Note 2: Mohammed Fayez Al-Hassani’s brother, Ramah Fayez Al-Hassani (رماح فايز الحسني), a field commander in the Al-Quds Brigades, was killed by Israeli forces on September 7, 2011. His uncle, Iyad Al-Hassani (إياد الحسني), a senior official in the PIJ group’s military council and the operations unit leader in the Al-Quds Brigades, was killed in a targeted airstrike on May 12, 2023.
