Death and Reported Roles

Death: Ahmed Salama Hashem Abu Aisha (أحمد سلامه هاشم ابوعيشة) was killed on July 10, 2025, in an alleged targeted drone strike in the Al-Sawarha area, west of Nuseirat, in the central Gaza Strip.
Journalistic Association: The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate (PJS) identified Ahmed Abu Aisha as a correspondent for Palestine Today News Agency (وكالة فلسطين اليوم الإخبارية), whereas the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) and the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) incorrectly described him as a journalist for the “pro-Palestinian Islamic Jihad broadcaster Palestine Today TV.”
Militant Affiliation: On June 1, 2026, the Al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of the Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine, released an obituary for a group of military commanders killed during the “Battle of Al-Aqsa Flood,” which began on October 7, 2023. Among those named was Ahmed Abu Aisha, who served as a platoon commander in the Central Information Unit of the Central Brigade.

Note 1: The IFJ also listed Ahmed Abu Aisha in its 2025 “killed list” report.

Note 2: After the incident, the Palestinian Center for the Protection of Journalists (PJPC) and the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) condemned the killing of Ahmed Abu Aisha, repeating unsubstantiated claims and anti-Israel propaganda. The PJS falsely claimed that Israel engages in a systematic policy of targeting journalists and media institutions. Separately, Airwars, a watchdog and investigative organization that tracks, archives, and assesses military actions and civilian harm in conflict zones, assigned a “fair” Civilian Harm status to the incident that killed Abu Aisha.
